Dear Church,
We are living, collectively, through an intense time of destabilization, state violence, and eroding rights. In the midst of crisis – both what we navigate in our individual lives, but also our lives together – tending to spiritual well-being might feel like a luxury. But it’s essential for survival. When is the last time you checked in with your spirit? If, like me when I asked this question, it’s been a bit, take 30 seconds to reflect right now:
What are you feeling? Where are those feelings in your body? When is the last time you ate something? Drank some water? Talked to a friend? Prayed?
One role of worship is spending time with God, listening, singing, praying, and being nourished by God’s love. Another role of worship is to be in community with each other, tending to the skills of care, conflict resolution, communal song, and living as our imperfect and beloved selves.
Twice this summer we will be gathering together for campfire church. These worship services will be shorter and more casual, ending with s’mores. We are hopeful that they can be bright spots of connection and spiritual nourishment as we move through the summer months. Whether you’re newer to Grace, can’t make Sunday mornings, or are longing for more time with community, I hope you can join us. This is also a great worship service to invite a friend to.
The first campfire church this summer is June 25th at Valley Lake Park in Lakeville (shelter A). Worship is at 6:30p – bring your own lawn chair or blanket! We have the shelter reserved from 4:00p, so you are welcome to come early and bring a picnic dinner.
This weekend and always, take care of yourselves and each other. If you go to an action to exercise your first amendment rights, go with at least one other person. Let someone else know that you’re going, and when you’re going to check in that you’re home safe. Stay hydrated, and keep an eye on air quality (masks are a great help when the AQI is bad!). Above all, remember that we follow a God who is love. You are a beloved child of God, as are each of your neighbors.
In Christ,
Pastor Reed
Every Friday, we send an email to the congregation and any others who would like to learn more about the Grace community. The last four Friday emails are posted below.
