Dear Church,

This Sunday we enter into Ordinary Time in the church calendar. While the seasons of Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, and Easter tell us the story of Jesus, I love the image of Ordinary Time telling the story of the people of God – the stories of our lives of faith lived in community. Ordinary Time gives us a chance to breathe, to reflect, and tend to the practices that shape our community.

Part of what that looks like at Grace this year is celebrating, paying attention to, and supporting all the faithful (and often unseen!) work that goes into Sunday morning. This is a piece of our story as people of God – the way we care and steward our times of worship and fellowship. From the Usher Team to the Altar Guild, to the coffee and fellowship organizers, to everyone who has said yes to reading in worship, or to being a friendly face when someone walks through the door, these are some of the participatory ways that we tend to our life in community.

In worship this week, we will be sharing more about the roles of Reader and Greeter, and you will have an opportunity to say, ‘yes, I’d like to learn more and be on the list for those roles!’ Throughout this season, we will be highlighting other roles and ways to serve, alongside meeting with the leaders who coordinate and shape these essential ministries in our life together. I give thanks for our shared ministry in community!

In Christ,
Pastor Reed

Every Friday, we send an email to the congregation and any others who would like to learn more about the Grace community. The last four Friday emails are posted below.
