Dear Church,

I wanted to share an update on our Public Faith Team, and extend an invitation to our next meeting on Thursday, October 23, 6:30-8pm. We’re very excited that fellow congregant and senator, Erin Maye Quade, will be joining us at this meeting. We will hear from her about some of the upcoming legislative priorities and how we can support our neighbors when these cuts take effect. We will also share in conversation about the most effective types of legislative advocacy and actions we can take as individuals and as a community. This would be a particularly good meeting to attend if you’ve been curious about getting involved, or seeing what the Public Faith Team is working on!

A little background on the Public Faith Team - this team was formed out of our legacy justice-based teams: the Green Team, Racial Justice Team, Reconciling in Christ Team, and Outreach Team. We’ve been meeting monthly, and building connection and community within the congregation, as we tend to internal learning and care at Grace, and turn outwards towards our neighbors.

Members of our team and congregation have been participating in the Dakota County Lighthouse Team through ISAIAH, a group of churches and mosques who have come together in response to ongoing threats to civil rights and safety net programs. Over 35 members of Grace went to the August Town Hall meeting about SNAP and Medicaid cuts, and have been moving on next steps of action, solidarity, and prayer.

I hope to see many of you at our meeting next Thursday, the 23rd! There’s a lot of good work happening at Grace and in our community as we live Christ’s love in the world, and plenty of opportunity to get involved or learn more! As always, please reach out with any questions.

In Christ,
Pastor Reed
