“Jesus said unto him, ‘Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets’”. (Matthew 22:37-40)
“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with God”. (Micah 6:8)
The active pursuit of justice is at the cornerstone of Christianity, and Jesus calls us to be his disciples in this work. We have taken steps to be a people and place where generosity and graciousness abound. We practice graciousness, forgiveness, and openness toward others. We have committed to welcome all people into the house of Christ. We have grounded ourselves in belonging, community, and grace.
And, we know that the work of welcome and inclusion is an ongoing practice. We are constantly learning and growing in response to God in the world – learning how to better love our neighbors and growing in our own individual and collective anti-racism journeys.
The Grace Lutheran Church Racial Justice Team invites you to join us as we journey with Christ in learning, growing, listening, and praying for racial equality. We believe that all of God’s children are created in God’s image, and we understand that there are differences in the way God’s children are heard, treated, and afforded opportunities based on their racial identity.
Our goal is to journey with Christ, in learning about systemic racism, growing in our cultural understanding, and advocating for racial equality, and we invite you to join us in acting justly, loving mercifully, and walking humbly with God.
