Dear church,
This Sunday, we are so excited to welcome David Scherer to Grace as our guest preacher and forum leader! Dave is a theologian, musician, hip-hop artist, and trained anti-racism facilitator. He will be preaching this Sunday, and leading the forum this week, as well as the forums on November 1 and 8th.
In times where we are carrying so much, it can be hard to carve out time to reflect, to play, and to practice embodying our faith and values, but we’re hoping these forums provide space to do just that! The series is called “This Is My Body”, and Dave will lead our community in exploring things like moving from perfection to progress, trauma to healing, and power over to power with. These are valuable explorations at any point in our lives, and we highly encourage attending all three sessions if you can!
Some of the questions we’ll engage with this week are: how do we get over our immobilizing fear about getting things wrong so that we can engage with humility and confidence? How can we become more aware of how our bodies respond in any given situation to create more values alignment?
We do have children’s programming running the full length of the forum, which we hope enables parents to more easily attend.
Also on Sunday, at 7pm in the sanctuary, please join us at a healthcare discussion with Senator Erin Maye-Quade – this would be a great event to invite a friend or neighbor to.
And a note for next week, 11/1: at the front of the sanctuary, we will have Tables of Remembrance set up. You are invited to bring a photo or object that reminds you of a loved one who has passed, to set on the table during worship, and then take back home with you at the end of worship. We will also have cards available to write names on for the tables. This is an embodied practice of memory, grief, and celebration – whether you’re remembering recent losses, or losses that you’ve been carrying with you, this is a space for you.
In Christ,
Pastor Reed
