Welcome to Grace Bible School
Grace Bible School (GBS) is open to children 3 years of age through 5th grade. In partnership with parents and families, GBS is an opportunity for kids to learn about the God that loves them, the faith communities that care for them, and their place in the world. We generally connect Grace Bible School curriculum and conversations to the themes we’re discussing in sermons and other Christian education experiences.
How It Works
All GBS students are dismissed from the sanctuary following the children’s sermon, to gather in Friendship Hall for large-group music time. After this large-group session, the children break out into their individual classrooms, organized by grade, for age-appropriate learning and crafts. When the service has concluded, parents pick up their children from their classrooms.
On both Sundays and Wednesdays the children meet for Grace Bible School for one hour during regular worship times. If the church service runs long, we will keep them in the classrooms until you arrive to pick them up. If the church service runs short, please wait in the atrium until the class concludes.
As children turn 3 throughout our program year, they are invited to register and join a class. However, because we follow the public school guideline of being 5 on or before September 1 to enter Kindergarten, 3 year olds who join GBS later in the year because of a birthday later than September 1, 2017, will repeat the 3-year-old grade level the following year in order to be in GBS Kindergarten when they enter the public school system.
Register for Grace Bible School
Register all 3-year olds-5th graders online for the current Grace Bible School program year. You may also pick up forms from the office, or print forms below.
We ask that you complete and submit forms to the church office by June 24, to give us the summer months to assign children to classes and recruit teachers. (We do accept registrations throughout the program year.)
The Parent Ministry portion of the registration form must be completed. Please prayerfully consider how you might volunteer your time next year!
You will receive an informational email in late August. Since all communications are sent to you through email, please be sure that the church office has your preferred household email address that you check on a regular basis, whether that is home or work. Please notify the church office of any phone number or email address changes throughout the year.
Help Make Grace Bible School Happen
The reason our children’s education experiences thrive is because of dedicated volunteers like you. Parents of GBS students can get involved in a number of ways. Some of our best volunteers are retired, caring adults with the time and experience to teach and mentor our children and youth and high school students who have a great time both teaching and learning alongside younger kids. We need your help, and there are 10+ ways to get involved.

Memory Work Program
By the time a child completes elementary school, he/she will have memorized age-appropriate “building blocks” of Lutheran faith such as John 3:16, The Lord’s Prayer, The Apostle’s Creed and The Ten Commandments. Once we launch the program each year, students have five weeks to work with their teachers during class time and with their parents at home. At the end of the program each grade recites their memory work for the other grades in large-group time.
Thank you to parents and teachers alike for supporting our children in this important aspect of their Christian education!
Bibles for Students
Children and youth will receive Bibles from Grace at age 2, during 2nd grade, and 6th grade. They are encouraged to bring their Bibles to worship and/or Grace Bible School class with them each week to use during their lessons.
Bibles will be presented to all third graders during worship services each September. Parents are handed the Bible by Grace leaders, and then hand the Bibles to their children, reminding us of our promise together to place the Scriptures in their hands. We’ll also host a “Get To Know Your Bible” session for students and parents to learn the basics of navigating their new Bible.
Bible App for Grace Bible School Children
YouVersion has created a great app-based Bible adventure featuring stories and activities in a way kids love!
Church Use of Photographs
On occasion, Grace Lutheran Church may use group photographs of children/youth in the monthly newsletter, on the church website, social media or as part of a display in the atrium. Children/youth are not identified by name. If you have concerns about photographs possibly being used in this way, please contact our Children and Youth Ministry Team at email@example.com
