We wait for weeks in a spirit of Advent, in expectancy of Christ to come. Then, a long journey and a Holy night.
We celebrate Christmas at Grace with joy, thanksgiving, generosity, and even a little grieving for those who need it. As always, you are welcome here this and every season, whoever you are. Whether this is the first time you’re considering coming to Grace, or you’ve been here for decades, we’ve saved you a seat, and would love to have you join us. Here’s what we have in store:
DECEMBER 8 · 6:00 PM
Each year we gather for a contemplative evening vespers service at the beginning of the Advent season. This service is filled with incredible vocal and instrumental music and meaningful Word. Following the service, we gather for a beautiful array of ethnic appetizers and desserts. Sign up in the atrium to bring treats.
DECEMBER 4,11, & 18 · 5:45 PM
We’re embracing Advent with special, contemplative services in addition to our Advent Sundays. These services will have a different message than Sunday services, use musical pieces from a setting called Unfailing Light by Marty Haugen, and have a similar atmosphere to our Lenten Dinner Church (without the dinner part).
Young at Heart Piano & Potluck
DECEMBER 11 · 10:30 AM
Join fellow seniors as we celebrate the season together. The morning will start in the sanctuary with an array of Christmas tunes played by our long-time piano aficionado, John Koziol. Following the mini-concert, we’ll head to Koinonia Hall for a potluck. Don’t miss this chance to gather for some good food and great music!
DECEMBER 15 · 3:00 PM
Our kids are practicing, the actors and singers are preparing, and our teachers are getting everyone ready for one of the most fun-filled afternoons all year. Whether you’ve got family kids in the program or just want to see dozens of joy-filled faces belting Christmas songs, you’re invited!
DECEMBER 19 · 7:00 PM
This service is carefully created for those that find with the holidays come sorrow, as well as joy. Whether it is reminders of loved ones no longer with us, painful memories, or just simply feeling down, Jesus came for it all. In this service we create space to feel those feelings and embrace them for a bit in a contemplative, meaningful worship service.
Christmas Eve @ Grace
DECEMBER 24 · 3:30 PM, 5:00 PM, & 10:00 PM
We celebrate the birth of Jesus with joy and thanksgiving on Christmas Eve with 3 services. The first two are filled with music, Word, and a message designed for families and kids. There will be a children’s sermon, the Prayground will be open, and nursery care will be available.
Then, at 10:00 pm we hold a beautiful service of song and story. This service is one of our favorite of the year, and we close it with an age-old tradition, singing Silent Night by candlelight.
Carol Sing & Cookie Exchange
DECEMBER 29 · ONE SERVICE @ 9:30 AM
We gather on the first Sunday after Christmas for a carol sing of all your favorites by request! We will have a few hymns planned, and then will take requests from the congregation. Bring the cookies you’re already tired of to exchange with others during the coffee hour following worship. There is no Grace Bible School this Sunday.
JANUARY 5 · REGULAR 8:45 & 10:15 AM
We return to our regular worship schedule beginning January 5th, when we’ll celebrate Epiphany and take some time to think about the stars the Wise Ones followed, and claim our own star words for the year.
