Prayers of Intercession, 02/06/22

With the whole people of God, let us pray for the church, the world, and all those in need.

Lord, we give thanks for the teachers in our lives. Sometimes these teaching relationships are formalized, such as K-12 teachers, university professors, coaches, mentors, Grace Bible School and confirmation leaders. Oftentimes, teaching and learning happen very informally. We learn from people we talk to, work with, play with, and pray with. And just as we learn from others, we, too, teach others, even when we are not doing so intentionally. We teach others how to treat us by setting boundaries. We teach others about our character and morals by the way we treat them.

Lord, we give thanks for our capacity to learn throughout our entire lives. Help us to be open and eager students of your Word. We pray that you would open our ears and hearts to your message of love and justice for all of God’s children.

Gracious Lord, hear our prayer.

God of comfort, we pray that you would provide solace to the family and friends of Jahmari Rice and Amir Locke. These two young men died of gun violence in places that should be safe – at school and in their bed. Gun violence is far too prevalent in our communities and neighborhoods, and it hurts both intended targets and innocent bystanders like Trinity Ottoson-Smith on her trampoline, like Aniya Allen, riding home from McDonalds last May. The wounds from gun violence go far beyond the person whose body is pierced by a bullet. Entire families, entire generations are impacted. The hurt becomes even more complicated when it is exacerbated by racial injustice. Lord, we pray that you would give us the strength to fight against gun violence in our communities. It is not an easy nor a simple fight, but life is always worth fighting for.

Gracious Lord, hear our prayer.

God of healing, we pray for all those who are struggling with their mental, physical, and spiritual health. We pray for those who are feeling isolated and lonely, that they may find comfort in your loving embrace and the knowledge that no matter what is going on, that they are and always will be blessed children of God. We pray especially for Lorraine, Jorma, Teri, Don, Dick, Jon, Harry, Delores, Al, Lois, Ruby, Aurora, and Wendi. We offer prayers for medical personnel, those who are sick, lonely & suffering; Mensajero de Cristo Lutheran Church of Guatemala, and all service personnel and their families.

Gracious Lord, hear our prayer.

Into your hands gracious God, we commend all for whom we pray trusting in your mercy through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
