Prayers of Intercession, 10/03/21

With the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God’s creation.

Great Creator, we give thanks for the beauty that is our planet Earth. The changing colors of the leaves herald the arrival of Autumn and remind us that the passage of time is integral to the human experience. Time has felt strange during Covid, leaving us feeling somewhat unmoored. Help us to focus on the present, to be in the moment, and to value the gift of our time together as community in worship of you.

Merciful God in heaven, hear our prayer.

Lord, our community has made the deliberate decision to keep wearing masks when we gather together indoors to protect the vulnerable among us. Putting on a mask is a simple action, and yet it is a sign of practicing love and kindness for our neighbors. Simple, kind actions can often have out-size impacts. A gentle word, a hug, a reassuring nod. These small moments weave us together. They can strengthen the bond between long-time friends, and show new friends we care for them. Sometimes, what may seem like a simple smile and ‘hello’ can buoy up the spirits of someone who is privately struggling. We all carry private struggles, some quite heavy. Help us, Lord, to remember that our small choices of kindness and caring for each other are the mortar of community, and also part of how we live out our calling to follow you.

Merciful God in heaven, hear our prayer.

God of Healing, we pray for all those who are struggling with their mental, physical, and spiritual health. We pray for those who are in recovery from substance abuse and for those who are not yet ready to set foot on the path of recovery. Addiction is complicated and compounded by shame. We pray that you would hold those struggling with addiction in your loving arms and remind them that first and foremost, they are beloved children of God.

Merciful God in heaven, hear our prayer.

We pray also for caregivers who take care of and protect the most vulnerable in our community. We pray that you give strength to doctors, nurses, those who work in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and all those who work in healthcare. Bless them, hold them, let their respite times be recuperative and restorative, for their work is unending, especially during Covid.

Merciful God in heaven, hear our prayer.

We also lift up our prayers for Patty, Michele, Carol, Beth, Earl, Chandra, Ashley; Karen, Bob & family, Jarred, Joey, Jeanne, Lorraine, Dick, Saretta, Jim. We offer prayers for medical personnel, those who are sick, lonely & suffering; Mensajero de Cristo Lutheran Church of Guatemala, and all service personnel and their families.

Into your hands gracious God, we commend all for whom we pray trusting in your mercy through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
