Prayers of Intercession, 09/26/21

With the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, let us pray with this church and all churches around the world for those in need, and all of God’s creation:

Lord, be with all who wave palm branches and walk the road to the cross. For the mission of the gospel where your church is forgotten, for disciples wrestling with betrayal, for all who seek the Lord and your guidance and your light, for all overwhelmed by sorrow, and for all who live in poverty, with disease, chronic pain and anxiety in this world. We pray for all whose daily lives are dictated by survival amid war and terror. Let us not become immobilized. May we use the gifts you have given us– hearts to reach out, voices to call out, and hands to stretch out. May they feel the consolation of your embrace.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord, we pray for the people caught up in the events of the natural world and hope that you will bring relief and safety to those parts of the world that need your comfort and care whether it be due to extreme heat or flooding of people’s homes or other natural disasters. Renew the grounds and waters of the earth and restore us to right relationship with all creation.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the world leaders who are gathering for the United Nations General Assemblyfor the first time since the start of the pandemic. As the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in his opening remarks, “Our world has never been more threatened or more divided…we face the greatest cascade of crises in our lifetimes.” Let us remember that you encompass all whenever we try to build walls or create divisions between one another. May the decisions of our world leaders be informed by your divine wisdom. Fill them with humility and compassion, not fear and greed. Help them to see our interconnectedness and interdependence. We pray for all making difficult decisions during this weary and uncertain time. Be with those who await decisions from those in leadership about the days and years to come.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for our Grace Lutheran Church community and to pray for our members who we have either lost or are in need of our care and thoughts in their time of need. We pray especially for Michele, Carol, Beth, Earl, Chandra, Ashley; Karen, Bob & family, Jarred, Joey, Jeanne, Lorraine, Dick, Saretta, Jim. We offer prayers for medical personnel, those who are sick, lonely & suffering; Mensajero de Cristo Lutheran Church of Guatemala, and all service personnel and their families. and to those we keep in the silence of our hearts (pause)

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Into your hands gracious God, we commend all for whom we pray trusting in your mercy through Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
