Prayers of Intercession, 08/22/21

As we come together once again for our prayers of intercession, let us prepare once more our minds and our hearts to turn our attention back to our Lord, to see this world with their eyes, to love with their heart, to work with their hands for the presence of their Kin-dom on earth.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the people and all creatures of this earth as news of natural disasters reaches us from around the world including wildfires in Israel, a water shortage on the Colorado River impacting the United States and Mexico, flooding in Ethiopia, wildfires in France and an earthquake and a tropical storm in Haiti. Wherever nature unleashes deadly force, we pray relief come swiftly, aid might be distributed fairly, and to all who are struggling with loss might find they are surrounded by love and provision. May communities look out for each other and may we more fully and wholly steward your Creation.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Faithful God, we long for your peace that passes all understanding as we anxiously watch the news from Afgahnistan. We pray voices will be heard and understood without violence and people will be able to unite to loving one another, respecting one another and understand how to live together as the new commandment has stated, “Love one another, as I have loved you”. Spread this message into the hearts of all people today, wherever they are, so they may work towards peace and understanding of differences that they may not know yet.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord, even as overwhelming as the news can be, if we are looking for the spark of hope, we can find it: couples who struggled with infertility are celebrating the birth of their children, partners are celebrating weddings and anniversaries, students and teachers are beginning a new school year in parts of the world, there are new and exciting job opportunities, adventures, homes, and relationships. Faith, hope, and love are around us. Remind us, Redeeming God, of your care for all people. Open our eyes, our hearts, our minds as we pray. Transform us that we might share your love with the world.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our pray.

Lord, we pray for our Grace Lutheran Church community and Family. We are continuing to grow as a church and be a sign of hope for the community that we are placed in. Help us to continue this journey of being that sign of hope by giving us the strength to work on the house we live in and continue to grow to understand the resources that are in our midst so that we may fulfill your Word and be in your image, a sign of hope for all in this community.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Give your stillness and tender hands, God of calm, to all who are facing illness, surgery, or any uncertainty of health (especially): Jeanne, Lorraine, Saretta, Dick, Mary, Jarred, Joey, Jim, Connor, Rosalie, medical personnel, those who are sick, lonely & suffering; Mensajero de Cristo Lutheran Church of Guatemala, and all service personnel and their families. May they know that their times are in your ever-healing hands.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Ever-present God, give us spirits to think with your mindfulness, give us voices to speak your message, and give us courage to act according to your will and for the sake of your world.  May we respond to your call to come and see by faithfully following Jesus Christ, our Lord.

Amen.
