Prayers of Intercession, 07/11/21

John once wrote: The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. Let us reflect on how we can continue to bring the light that will always be there in our lives so it will burn brighter and share with others each day. With the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, let us pray with this church and all churches around the world for those in need, and all of God’s creation:

Lord, you are merciful and just; loving all that you created and seeing that your works are good.   You draw all creation to you with cords of love but you bind us loosely, your love is such we are free to return your love or break away. When we do break away, please help us find your way so we can be fulfilled and bring light back to this world, especially when it comes to opening our doors and hearts to people of all cultures, races and sexualities. Help them know there is a place for them here with welcoming hands from us and open arms from you.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord, we pray for the people caught up in the events of the natural world and hope you will bring relief and safety to those parts of the world that need your comfort and care whether it be due to extreme heat or flooding of people’s homes. We also continue to mourn the people still unaccounted for in the aftermath of the collapse of the South Champlain Towers in Florida. In your compassion, hold fast the families who continue to await news of the missing. Tend to these souls and place your peace over this community of grief and all communities that experience calamity.  We find your peace that passes all understanding as first responders and recovery workers report they are being handed notes made by children telling them they care about their work and to say “thank you.”

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for our essential workers in that they continue to be safe and generous in their deeds and paths towards helping their fellow human being. Protect and guide the minds and hearts and hands of those who care for each and all, from the receptionist in a clinic, to nurses, doctors, housekeepers to lab technicians, respiratory therapists, security guards, administrators, supply clerks, janitorial staff, and all of the essential and necessary workers that commit to their daily work. As each of these workers strives to give care, peace and healing to others, may they receive your care, your peace and your healing touch today.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for our Grace Lutheran Church community and to pray for our members who we have either lost or are in need of our care and thoughts in their time of need. We pray especially for Stan, Bill’s family, Rick, Karen, medical personnel, those who are sick, lonely & suffering; Mensajero de Cristo Lutheran Church of Guatemala, and all service personnel and their families and to those we keep in the silence of our hearts.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Into your hands, gracious God, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, Amen.
