A Pastoral Pathway Update

Greetings family of Grace,

The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps.

Proverbs 16.9

I write to you to share news of a new pathway unfolding in our pastoral staff. With both sadness and understanding I share that Pastor Deb Stehlin has submitted her letter of resignation to our council and will be stepping away from her call as Senior Pastor of Grace Lutheran Church. You’ll find her letter, written to you, the family of Grace, included in this message.

We meet this new pathway knowing that God directs our steps, and has surrounded us with strong, faithful leadership and steadfast support to meet the needs of this faith community during the weeks and months ahead. I have been in contact with Deacon Krista Lind, Assistant to the Bishop at the Saint Paul Area Synod, and she has already demonstrated care and compassion in walking along with us.

I have also been in regular contact with Pastor Jen Collins, who will be increasing her work at Grace to full-time, effective immediately. She and our faithful staff will keep us on track with already-formed worship and faith formation plans for the weeks ahead.

We know this decision was made with the best interests of Grace at the heart, and as Pastor Deb cares for her own spirit and well-being, we wish her well with gratitude for her leadership in navigating a season of life that was full of challenges and questions for us as individuals and as a church. Nevertheless, as a community, we found a way to say “Alleluia” anyway. We will continue to meet what’s ahead with the same confidence in God’s call for Grace to be a people and place where generosity and graciousness abound.

Pastor Deb will be present at our worship service on July 25th at 9:30 am. During this service, we will send her out with an abundance of grace. We invite you to join us in person or online for this grateful sendoff.

Our next steps are unfolding, and as we have clarifying conversations with the Saint Paul Area Synod as well as our Grace staff and leaders, we’ll continue to share what illuminates our path.
