Greetings family of Grace,
We love bravely around here, like Jesus did. We allow that brave love to lead the way to do the right thing at the right time. After clarifying discussion with our team of staff and volunteers, and even consultation with meteorologists about the wind, ice, and road safety, we’ve decided that the safest way to have a meaningful Christmas Eve experience is from home.
We’re officially canceling the drive-in part of our Christmas Eve plans, scheduled for 4:30 pm on December 24th, and moving to an online gathering via Zoom, in addition to our 3:30 pm online worship experience.
Mary and Joseph knew a thing or two about plans changing for the sake of something holy. We join them in their adaptability for the sake of the story of Christmas being ever-written. As we did this Easter with our alleluias, we’ll say Merry Christmas and sing Silent Night anyway. So, here’s the updated schedule for the next few days, and how to participate fully from home:
*Pro-tip: If you have the capability, pull up the service on your TV and settle in to the most comfortable chair you can find.
4:30 pm · Christmas Eve Candlelight Gathering
Join us for a short, yet deep, few moments together online as we gather via Zoom. We’ll pray, hear The Story, light a candle together, and sing Silent Night. Just head to glcav.us/zoom (passcode: grace) on your computer or through the Zoom app on a mobile device. There is a call-in, non-video option as well. You can find those access details at graceofav.org/live.
10:00 pm · Christmas Eve Storytime for All Ages
If you’re in the mood for a simple, cozy Christmas story and have some tradition around late-night Christmas Eve experiences, join us on Facebook at 10:00 pm for an all-ages storytime.
We pray you find grace and peace as we celebrate the birth of Jesus in our holy spaces at home. We’ll be sharing a special song put together by our virtual choir on Facebook and our website on Christmas morning (it is a sight and sound to behold!).
9:00 am · Online Worship with the Saint Paul Area Synod
The St. Paul Area Synod has put together a Christmas Day worship service, and we encourage you to tune in. Join at their Facebook page.
7:00 pm · Christmas Day Cookie & Cocoa Chat
If you are living alone, have an “empty nest”, or could simply use a connection with your church family on Christmas day, Brittany and Andi will host an agenda-free chat on Christmas Day evening. Join in our Zoom Living Room at glcav.us/zoom (passcode: grace).
These are the ways in which we come to the manger this year, and we encourage and invite you and yours to join for one or all of these experiences. As we would in person, we also encourage you to spread the word among your extended families, friends, and neighbors that we’ve got a number of opportunities to worship and listen, sing and pray. Forward this message on, and be the reason someone connects with Jesus this Christmas.
