Prayers of Intercessions, 01/26/2020

I would like to begin our prayers of intercession with a prayer from a very famous man whose life we celebrated last week, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, that I feel rings true still to this day.

O God, we thank you for the fact that you have inspired men and women in all nations and in all cultures. We call you different names; some call you Allah; some call you Elohim; some call you Jehovah; some call you Brahma; some call you the Unmoved Mover. But we know that these are all names for one and the same God. Grant that we will follow you and become so committed to your way and your kingdom that we will be able to establish in our lives in this world a brother and sisterhood, that we will be able to establish here a kingdom of understanding, where men and women will live together as brothers and sisters and respect the dignity and worth of every human being.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Father, in the midst of great turmoil in our nation’s decisions of state, let us not forget to be a people of compassion for those in need of help. We pray for all government workers and officials as they struggle through the continuing government trials and tribulations. Help them find ways to keep their lives stable. Help clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience and aid us in finding ways to help those in need that are affected.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Lord, we give you thanks for your constant presence. Through seasons of constant and even change, you are with us—calling us into deeper waters, calling us together in your spirit of unity, calling us out of ourselves into the world to serve others. May any church experiencing loss and change hold fast to the promise that your mission is bigger than any single pastor, local church, or annual conference. Strengthen us to be your Church in all  time and seasons of life—a place where all are truly welcomed and embraced in your love, a place where we find ways you are active among us and calling us to join in your saving work, a place where the story of your love and grace and mercy are embodied.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Give your stillness, God of calm, to all who are facing illness, surgery, or any uncertainty of health, especially Kyle, Loren, Barb, Ken, Julia, Dan’s family, Kathy, Sue, Rich, Al, Dave, Mensajero de Cristo Lutheran Church of Guatemala, and all service personnel and their families. May they know that their times are in your ever-healing hands.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Listen to us when we call upon you, most merciful God, and grant us grace to entrust our lives and our world to your unfailing love, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
