Prayers of Intercession, 01/12/2020

With the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God’s creation.

God of gratitude, we give thanks for the work and gifts of Pastor Andrea during her time here at Grace. Bless her and her family as they move on to their next community. We give thanks also for the staff and leaders here at Grace. Their important work, largely behind the scenes, enables and fosters a place where community can flourish. Be with us, Lord, as our community experiences a transition. Help us to remember that amid all the uncertainties of life, there remains but one constant: Your love for all creation.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of nature we give thanks for the beautiful creation that is your earth. We stand in awe of its powerful forces, from volcanoes that spew forth new rock, to earthquakes that crack open the land. We recognize that events like fires, floods, and storms might be scary and destructive, but they open the way for regeneration and new growth. Purge our world, Lord, of the chaff, and bring forth new life and hope.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of compassion, we grieve for those children who drowned in the Mediterranean while seeking refuge in Turkey. We mourn for the people who died when their plane was shot down in Iran, and we pray for all your children who are hemmed in by conflict. Please give hope to our brothers and sisters who live in fear of war. Let your light shine so that dialogue, compassion, love, and peace may reign supreme in your Kingdom on Earth.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of healing, bless all your children, and give comfort to those suffering from grief, from addiction, from mental and physical illness, and from social isolation. We pray especially for Kathy, Loren, Jim & Sue, Vicki, Jean, Maxine, Rich, Willie, Judy & family, Robyn, Mandy, Luca, Roland, Al, Dave, Mensajero de Cristo Lutheran Church of Guatemala, and all service personnel and their families.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We commend these and all our prayers to you, trusting in your abundant mercy; through Jesus Christ.
