Prayers of Intercession, 01/05/20

With the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God’s creation.

God of nature, we pray for the safety and well being of the people, plants and animals in Australia. We beseech you to bring calmer winds and cooling rains to this continent so far away, yet so close in our hearts. Help us to face the harsh truth that the choices we have collectively made have caused the changing climate we are witnessing today. Grant us the wisdom and verve to collectively make the much-needed changes. Remind us that we are stewards of your Earth – stewards who have responsibility to care for the Earth for generations to come.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Prince of Peace, amid bellicose shouts of war and retribution, let the calming words of your love for everyone born prevail. Money may talk, but wealth whispers. We pray that the soothing balm of your Word may be the currency traded in times of tension. We recognize that there may be trying times ahead, and we pray that you would be with all your people. Let us not shrink from fear; remind us that it is only in the heat and stress of the forge that swords can become plowshares.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Healing God, bless all your children, and give relief to those suffering from grief, from addiction, from mental and physical illness, and from social isolation. We pray especially for  Loren & Bernie, Jim & Sue, Vicki, Jean, Lois Evers’ family, Rich, Willie, Judy & family, Robyn, Mandy, Luca, Roland, Al, Crystal, Julie, Gladys, Linda & Todd, Jeff & family, Lynda, Ken, Dave, Betty, Bev, Mensajero de Cristo Lutheran Church of Guatemala, and all service personnel and their families.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of compassion, we give you thanks for the work of Lutheran World Federation – Nepal, of Lutheran World Relief – Nepal, and of Young Adults in Global Mission.  We pray for the people of Nepal, especially the marginalized Dalit people. Let the beacon of your love shine brightly for them and for those who advocate on their behalf.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of love, we give you thanks for Pastor Andrea. We are grateful for her leadership, her friendship, and her storytelling. As she and her family embark on a new chapter in their lives, we pray that you would be with them every step of the way. Share their excitement, soothe their apprehensions, and empower them to be impactful leaders, friends, and storytellers in their new community.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We commend these and all our prayers to you, trusting in your abundant mercy; through Jesus Christ.
