Prayers of Intercession, 08/11/19

With the whole people of God in Christ Jesus, let us pray for the church, those in need, and all of God’s creation.

God of change, you have been with your people through countless times of flux and transition. Change happens on many scales, from personal habits to family circumstances, from national governments to global interconnectedness and climate change. Amidst the uncertainty and apprehension of change, help us to recognize and value the absolute certainty that is your love for all people on this earth.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of love, lead us by your example, that we may value human life for the sacred gift it is. Embrace us in your love, that we may feel secure enough in our own worthiness that we are not tempted to diminish the value of others to prop up our own self-worth. Help us to embody the belief that true power does not come from subjugating, demeaning, murdering, trafficking, and neglecting our fellow children of God. Rather, true power comes from love and service to others, especially the vulnerable. Give us the courage we need to foment the changes we need to make to protect and nurture the young, the weak, the outcast.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of humanity, we thank you for the gift of fellowship. We are grateful for the immense diversity of experiences, cultures, faiths, and worldviews that enrich the tapestry of human life and strengthen its warp and weft. We are especially excited that today we celebrate the baptisms of five of your precious children – Elinor, Owen, Marcus, Sophie, and Noah. We joyfully welcome them into our community.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

God of mercy, bless all your children, and give relief to those suffering from grief, from addiction, and from mental and physical illness. We pray especially for Barb, Casey, Art, Al, Dick, Joel, Bob & Judy, Donna, Mary, Michael, Dorothy, Ted, Curtis, Sheldon, Jeff, Barb, Sophie, Tricia, Mensajero Dr Cristo Lutheran Church of Guatemala, and all service personnel and their families.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Into your hands, gracious God, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in your mercy; through Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen.
