Prayers of Intercession, 07/14/19

Joining our voices with God’s people around the world, let us offer our prayers for those in need.

For the church, steadfast and faithful in its mission to proclaim redemption through Christ Jesus; for all ministers of the gospel who proclaim that the word is near; for city contractors who plant trees, for college-aged volunteers who tend gardens, for social workers who provide food, clothing and hope to people in small towns, for long-time non-profit workers who help families experiencing homelessness find healthy food, for nursing home care-givers who do fun activities with elderly residents, for congregations who generously host visiting youth groups and let them sleep in their church Youth Room; and for the mission of the gospel, that all will know the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For areas affected by drought or storms; for livestock and fields; for ranchers and farmers; for garden weeders, planters and waterers; for beautiful water-front sunsets, unexpected rainbows, and scenic views from mountain tops; and for all stewards of the earth, that as God’s goodness is revealed in creation, we act with justice toward all creatures.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For lawyers and advocates; for local, regional, and national governments; for those who make decisions about fair wages, affordable housing, immigration and asylum seekers, and access to health care; and for peace throughout the world, that God send gracious and upright leaders to govern with mercy and truth, that remember Christ’s commandment to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For those who feel ashamed; for those who feel alone; for those who find it difficult to trust; for the bereaved and sick, especially: Mary, Michael, Harley, Dave and family, Curt and family, Dorothy, Ted, Jeanne, Lil, Bob and Barb, Ingrid, Bob and Judy, Lois, Curtis, Sheldon, Jeff, Barb, Sophie, Dave, Tricia, Mensajero de Cristo Lutheran Church of Guatemala, and all service personnel and their families; that God provide compassionate and loving caregivers to all who suffer.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For the members of the body of Christ in this place; for those who do good works in our midst; for those who are visiting and those who are absent; for those who take care of others, for those who drive vans long distances and encourage us in our life and faith, for those who help keep us safe; for those who are returning from a period of rest and renewal; that the Holy Spirit guide all the journeys of our lives.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

For our ancestors who have inspired us by their lives of faith, that thankful for this witness, we can confidently proclaim our salvation.

Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Merciful God, you hear the prayers of your people even before they are spoken. We commend these and all our prayers to you, trusting in your abundant mercy; through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord. AMEN.
