Prayers of Intercession, 11/18/18

Gathered into one by the Spirit, let us pray for the church, the world, and all of God’s creation.

We pray for your people without homes – for those who wonder where they’ll sleep tonight, or where they’ll spend tomorrow – that they might encounter grace and warmth and access to the tools they need to live more fully into who you’ve called and created them to be. Bless our next steps as a congregation, that we might respond to your call to do justice and love our neighbor.

God, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for those displaced by the wildfires in California, for the families of those who have died or remain missing, and for those tasked with fighting the fires that still burn and combing through the ashes they have left behind. Be with them in their grief and heartache, and grant them courage for the days ahead.

God, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for our elected leaders, especially those who are heading to Washington now for the first time, that their hearts might burn with a fire for justice and that they might lead boldly, caring especially for those on the margins.

God, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for the family of Jemel Roberson, killed after police mistook him for the very shooting suspect he had already subdued. We pray for people of color everywhere in this country, who must fear for their lives even when saving the lives of others. Help us to confront our own biases, and to confront the biases that persist in our institutions, so that all people might live without fear.

God, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We pray for those in our midst who are struggling with illness, grief, or fear. For Ernie’s family, Lila’s family, Dale, Dixie, Jeff & Liz, Yvonne, Nancy, Ed, Mark, Adam, Beverly, Jacob, Duane, Jean, Patty, Tom, Angie, Dick’s family, Amelia, Luke, Roald & Shirley, Connor, Jerry & Gail, Lynette, Sharon, Derrick, Marvin, Dave, Mary, Joan, Dick & Joanne, Marilyn, Alec, Karen, Lila & Herb, Len, Haley, Dawn, Jackson, Sue, Stephen, Tricia, Ginger, Mensajero de Cristo Lutheran Church of Guatemala, and all service personnel and their families including Kyle, who is currently deployed.

God, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

We ask all this, and all that you know that we need, through the mercy of your son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
