Shakopee Mdewakanton Wacipi (Pow Wow)
Saturday, August 19, 5:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m.
To expand your knowledge of the Native American culture beyond the August 3 video and discussion, join Pastor John, at the 2017 Shakopee Mdewakanton Wacipi (Pow Wow) at the Shakopee Wacipi Grounds, 3212 Dakotah Parkway. This marvelous event includes the Grand Entrance (7:00 p.m.), festive dances and short presentations, and many kiosks for buying Native American items. (Food is available for supper.)
No pre-registration is needed—just show-up! We will leave the church at 5:30 p.m. and return at 9:30 p.m. The price of admission is $10 (seniors over 60 and children under 10 are free).
For more information about the Wacipi go to: https://shakopeedakota.org/culture/wacipi-pow-wow. Wacipi, or Pow Wow, means “they all dance” in the Dakota language. Dance has always been an important part of the ancestors’ ceremonial practices. The Wacipi is a celebration of life!
