Every school year Grace Lutheran partners with the Sheridan Story to provide weekend food to children living with food insecurity at Cedar Park Elementary right here in Apple Valley. Many of these children rely on free and reduced-cost lunch during the week to make ends meet, which leaves them in a crunch over the weekend. The Sheridan Story (utilizing volunteers from Grace) makes sure that high-quality, non-perishable food gets put discreetly into the backpacks of these students each Friday, so they come to school Monday ready to learn.
The estimate this year is that 75 students will opt into this program, at a yearly sponsorship cost of $130 each. If you wish to sponsor a child in this way, please make a check out to Grace Lutheran with “Sheridan Story” written in the memo. In 2016 Simpson Housing made a huge impact on individuals experiencing homelessness through housing, support and advocation. They served 3,892 people, which included 263 families, 111 singles, and 539 children.
We can continue to help support these individuals by collecting toiletry items! There will be a clear bucket in the church office all the time to collect supplies & will be displayed in the Narthex on every 3rd Sunday. Items to be collected include; baby wipes, baby oil, toothpaste, floss, razors, shaving cream, deodorant, foot powder, lotion, Q-tips, facial tissue, combs/brushes, bar soap, body wash, travel size shampoo/conditioner, diapers/pull ups, women’s pads & tampons.

The Grace Nominating Committee is seeking members to fill leadership roles in committees and commissions. Grace Lutheran Church is organized into seven leadership commissions and several committees, which are overseen by the Executive Committee. Leaders are nominated by the Nominating Committee and are elected at the annual meeting of the church, and serve two-year terms, after which they are eligible for one more two-year term. To serve in these ways, nominees must be members of Grace.

Cook: One-to-two volunteers to plan the menu and shopping list for 4-6 meals per year. Prepare and serve the meal with the help of a team of 3-5 people. Training provided.
Panera Bread: One-to-two volunteers to pick up the extra bread from Panera Bakery at 9:15 p.m. Sunday evening. Deliver it to Gace Lutheran Church by 5:00 p.m. the following day. (8-10 times per year)
Washing Pots and Pans: One-to-two to wash the dishes used in the kitchen when the meal is being prepared and clean up the kitchen. (12 times per year)

This food distribution for those less fortunate is distributed at Grace Lutheran the third Tuesday of each month. The food comes from Second Harvest Heartland and is staffed by Grace members. We need additional volunteers for two-hour shifts, from noon to about 2:00 p.m. No heavy lifting. Helping others in this manner will leave you with a very rewarding feeling.

We need assistance with straightening the sanctuary pews. This would involve walking through the sanctuary to straighten and refill the pew racks about once a month. Time required is about two hours, depending on how many people work together as a team.
The Sunday morning coffee ministry needs you! If you enjoy this time of coffee, snacks and fellowship please consider volunteering to host. This is a low-stress commitment for just a few Sundays a year. Contact Naomi Owen, 952-221-5640 or Cheryl Willert at 952-431-3849 if you are willing to help.
Kids ‘n Kinship Needs School-Based Mentors:
